Yolanda "Kay" Holsome
April 4, 1955 - July 30, 2026
Yolanda "Kay" Holsome, 71, of Jacksonville, Texas, peacefully entered eternal rest on Thursday, July 30, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family and the grace of God.
Kay was born on April 4, 1955, in Jacksonville, Texas, to Homer B. and Jeannie McCullough. At an early age, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and remained steadfast in her faith throughout her life. She was a faithful and devoted member of Benson Memorial C.M.E. Church, where she faithfully served in numerous ministries and leadership roles over the years. Kay's love for her church was unwavering, and she found great joy in serving God and His people. Her life was a true reflection of Christian faith, humility, compassion, and service.
Kay attended Lapoynor High School before continuing her education at Tyler Junior College, Lon Morris College and Texas Woman's University. She later married the love of her life, Samuel M. Holsome, and together they built a loving home and were blessed with two sons, Micheal and Marcus Holsome. Kay was a devoted wife and an extraordinary mother whose greatest joy came from caring for and supporting her family.
For 31 years, Kay faithfully served the students of Jacksonville Independent School District as both an educator and bus driver. She loved her work and took pride in making a positive impact on the lives of countless children. Even after retiring, her passion for education continued as she returned to JISD as a substitute teacher. She also faithfully served her community by working the election polls during election seasons and volunteering weekly at HOPE, always willing to lend a helping hand wherever there was a need.
Kay truly embodied what it meant to be a servant of God. She believed that kindness cost nothing but meant everything. She had a heart that overflowed with compassion, a smile that could brighten any room, and a joyful laugh that will forever echo in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. She never met a stranger and made everyone feel welcomed, valued, and loved.
When she wasn't serving others, Kay could often be found enjoying one of her favorite pastimes—fishing. Those who knew her knew she wasn't just a fishing enthusiast; she was exceptionally good at it. She also found great happiness in cooking. Nothing brought her more joy than preparing meals for her family, especially her beloved grandsons, whom she cherished beyond measure. Kay also loved her little four-legged best friend, Dixie. She was her baby. They bought so much love and companionship into each other lives.
Kay was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Samuel M. Holsome; her father, Homer B. McCullough; her brother, Wayne E. McCullough; her maternal grandparents, Ruthie and Jessie Fry; and her paternal grandparents, Henry and Chaney Bell McCullough.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory her loving sons, Micheal (Myia) Holsome and Marcus Holsome; her devoted mother, Jeannie McCullough; her sisters, Noel (Dewey) Smith and Angie McCullough; her treasured grandchildren, Marcus Holsome Jr., Samuel Holsome, Michela Holsome, Alexis Holsome, and Tyias Holsome; her nephews, Lorenza (Kenya) McCullough, Charrod (Mary) McCullough, Jared McCullough and Aiden Silmon; her nieces, Sherry McCullough and Kayla Blakemore; and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, extended family members, cherished church family, dear friends, and all whose lives were blessed by knowing her.
Although our hearts are heavy with sorrow, we rejoice in knowing that Kay has heard the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant." Her legacy of faith, love, service, generosity, and unwavering kindness will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and lovingly remembered until we meet again.
