Leonard Lee Montgomery, affectionately known as “Bo,” was born on November 7, 1928, in Summerfield, Texas, to Cecil Wilford Montgomery and Clara Mae Fry Montgomery.
Leonard spent his early years in Summerfield, where he attended school through the eleventh grade. Growing up, he worked on a farm, learning the values of hard work, dedication, and perseverance that would guide him throughout his life.
In 1950, at the age of 22, Leonard was drafted into the United States Army and proudly served during the Korean War. He was first stationed in Japan and later served in Korea.
Leonard served as a Mechanic Helper in the Signal Corps, where he helped support communications and information systems essential to military operations and command.
Following his military service, Leonard built a successful career as the owner and operator of Leonard’s Pest Control. For 35 years, he faithfully served his customers and community through his business. His dedication to the profession earned him recognition for over 50 years of service in the pest control industry. Leonard continued working until the age of 77.
A man of deep faith, Leonard attended Sweet Union Baptist Church and was a dedicated member. He served faithfully on the Deacon Board, where his wisdom, quiet strength, and servant’s heart left an impact that will never be forgotten.
He was known for being a private individual whose relationship with God was deeply personal. Those who knew him admired his quiet strength, unwavering faith, and independent spirit. Leonard preferred a simple life and believed that some things were best kept between him and the Lord.
Leonard was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Opal Montgomery, who passed away on January 18, 2017; his parents, Cecil Wilford Montgomery and Clara Mae Fry Montgomery; and his siblings Savannah Hightower, Willy Lewis (“Punk”), and Ira Montgomery("Monk)".
Although Leonard was preceded in death by his beloved wife, parents, and siblings, he leaves behind a host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, dear friends, church family, and all who were blessed to know him.
His kindness, wisdom, faith, and quiet strength will be cherished and remembered for generations to come.
